While using a smaller m.p. certainly isn't going to hurt your soloing endevours, I question whether it's actually going to *give you the results that you want* (taken from your wording). When I was in college (years ago), I had a Miraphone Eb/F m.p. that I used on a Boosey Eb tuba. I did experiment using that m.p. in the school's Miraphone 186 (assigned to me), but I would say that the results I got were more satisfactory for quintet work, than for actually trying to play high stuff on that horn.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm not certain using an even smaller m.p. is a workable substitute for getting a good Eb or F tuba. As with all such things, mileage will vary.

If you're going to use different m.p.'s for different situations, then try to keep the cup diameter and rim shape similar on all of your m.p.'s. That way, you'll have an easier time hopping back and forth.
