I had a Holton York copy for awhile, and one of the things that I noticed was how oddly flexible and facile it was, inspite of its size. I played the CSO York once for a few minutes, and that instrument is far more flexible and facile than was my Holton copy.
Since Mr. Jacobs was so accustomed to that instrument, I cannot be too surprised at his choice to select it as a solo instrument.
