My orchestra is playing Firebird for our next concert. I have never played it before, and assumed it would lie nicely on CC. It's certianly not a challenging peice, and requires little playing, but there are a few higher notes, and not much below F. Just fooling around, I practiced it on my F, and actually thought it sounded pretty good, and "lied nicely" on the horn. (we are talking a PT-6 versus the new Miraphone F) Actually, the only real difference is that the F obviously has slightly more edge to it, and the uper notes speak a little more clearly. Using a big mouthpiece, not a huge tonal difference.
Any thoughts, recommendations, or observations in terms of practical application?
