I've noticed that in recordings of the Berlin Phil. over the last one or two years, the tuba suddenly seems more audible than it used to be. Has the BPO changed players, or has their tubaist simply changed horns? - just curious. I once saw the BPO do the Bruckner 9th in 1978 (Barenboim). The player used two different tubas, and I could hardly hear him on either horn.
