Well, you may be right about the "it's Texas" thing. Texans, as a group, have a great many wonderful qualities, but bravado -- and sometimes arrogance -- is part of the package, especially in the male of the species. I do think that playing so very loud is an arrogant thing to do, and I suspect that in places where people are less arrogant, it might be less of a problem.
