I went to school with somebody with a Roland Meinl tuba. I can't tell you much other than it had an okay sound, but it was a real pea shooter and the intonation was fairly mediocre. I didn't really like it but the owner loved it. On the plus side it's really easy to play and has a pretty consistent sound from top to bottom.
With that said, if you're considering buying one (Dave Fedderly has one, doesn't he?) don't let my opinion sway you one way or another. I haven't played one in four years or so and all my experience with the horn since then has been listening to it being played. But as long as no one else was posting I thought I'd throw in my half cent's worth of info.
