Doug is talking about my horn. I just got my 45s a week ago. As such, I'm not totally comfortable with it yet in terms of fingerings, but I can tell you it plays great. I bought it from Dillon's and Matt told me that it was a good example of the breed, and I love the horn. I played a bunch of f tubas the last time I went to Dillon's, and this is easily my favorite. I agree totally that the 45SLP is far too CC-ish in terms of sound, irrespective of how good it plays.

The 45S is clear sounding, has great intonation (far better than my 2155, which I have to muscle into tune with itself on some pitches), and is light, quick, and responsive. True, it is technically a big f (I think the bore is bigger then that on my CC, actually), but I'd have a hard time telling you that based on sound and feel.

After I got it, my teacher kindly offered to borrow it for a few months to give it a good play-testing. ;)
