It all depends on price. There are places where you can buy online, although in my experience prices on line tend to be higher than the best local prices. If you look around you should be able to find a double trigger bass, decent brand for between $1000 and 1500. expect to pay more for anything with thayer vavles. Any decent double trigger under a grand is good. Buying a horn with regular rotaries will cost less than the thayer-yes you'll have to work a little harder for the same result down low, but you'll pay a lot less. Some of the better brands are Edwards, Bach, Conn, King Benge, Holton, Yamaha. expect to pay a lot for an Edwards and it's hard to find a Shires for sale at all. Kings, Benges and Holtons go for a little less than the others and don't play bad, just not as favored at present. More than brand name look for good slide, 9 1/2 or 10 inch bell, and second vavle on the ring finger, clear and big sound. If the horn plays reall well, one with both vavles on the thumb can be converted, but since this cost money offer a bit less for the horn.
