Hi,

Actually I thought the Woodward was pretty challenging. It's longer and I think harder on the chops than the John Williams. You hold out a lot of Gs and As above middle C and the 4th movement hits a C above middle C in a run in the end. Also, the first movement is filled with offbeat figures between the soloist and the orchestra that are hard to put together with a pianist, much less a ninety piece ensemble. The third movement is rather slow (think Bydlo) and you have to play it quietly (at some points) and musically enough while holding out high notes that don't seem high at first, but when you're holding them forever, it kind of hurts. Personally, I do really like the concerto and will play it again for auditions, competitions, etc. but I think it's one of those that takes a lot of preparation and thoughtfulness.

Thanks,
Aubrey
