Gustav Malher rescored all of the Beethoven simphonies, adding the traditional Wagnarian brass section, along with more percussion. He also "redid" Shubert's 9th, as well as many orchestral pieces (overtures, etc.) by Beethoven et. all.
There is also an orchestration of handel's Messiah by Sir Thomas Beecham incorperating the Wagnarian brass.
There is a great "once upon a time story" where Arnold Jacobs didn't show up to any rehersals or concerts because he did not know that the Beethoven 5 that the CSO was doing was Mahler's verison.
