I find that the Conn 25J (the only one I've played cause it's the one I own) is not stuffy. It is just not easy to change the color of the tone on these horns, probably because they are so big. It's a decent playing horn although, in my opinion, it is not an all around horn. I have to agree on the dynamic issues that you addressed. Seems like these horns just don't respond well to dynamic changes. The tone just seems to come out at about the same dynamic no matter how you play.
