I find your comment about them being more secure than the tones above it on the McClellan interesting. To my way of thinking, the notes that fall in the usual harmonic series should be stronger than those that don't (ie false tones). I wonder what factor in the instruments design makes it the opposite in this case, and whether it was by design or accident.
