With all due respect Rex, I have to disagree with you on the scale thing. One must get their ear accostumed to a new pitch center. This is best done by playing scales and simple melodies away from music. Once one gets used to the new center then one can apply their new "ears" to the written note. I wholeheartedly believe that playing any instrument is grounded in the inherent sound that one gets an aural "fix" on. Once that fix is ingrained in the ear, then written music becomes quite easy.
