The Hartley duet for Flute and Tuba is quite nice and would be suitable for a contest piece. It has enough variety to show ones talents, is not too long and was written as a serious piece of music. I played this on my master's recital and it was well received by the committee. I did one other piece that escapes me right now but I believe it was Vivaldi. The Hartley requires a light touch on the tuba part, but is very playable. ow that I think about it, I also played this on a recital in high school so it can' tbe that tough because I wasn't that good in HS :).
It's published by Presser and you can find it on Robert King's site, for one.
