Sorry, I hit accidentally hit Submit too soon. I picked up bass guitar in college because I knew that I couldn't pick up enough gigs on tuba in NW Georgia to be worthwhile. I've played in an old dance orchestra for thirty years, and have enough played shows, rock, blues, church gigs, and so on to keep me busy during my 26-year layoff from tuba. Tuba's a great instrument, but it's not enough to pay the bills except for the fortunate few really good players who work in the right markets. Since I never played that well and don't work in the right towns, electric bass is the only thing that kept me going in music.
