While I stay pretty busy on the Tuba, I'd have to say I make the bulk of my living as a Bassist, primarily upright but a fair amount on electric. Started playing Bass at 25, wish I started much sooner. Arnold Jacobs recommended doubling to me in my first lessons with him as a teenager, as he was highly aware of the realities of making a living as a professional Tubist (He was a pretty fair Bassist himself).
Highly recommended! Doubling makes one a much better, versatile musician and thus MUCH more marketable. And ya have a lot more fun!!
