I have an old Boosey & Hawkes similar to the Besson 982 which I have played for about 17 years. I have always enjoyed playing the horn. Two years ago I put a 981 lead pipe on the horn and I wish I had done it years earlier. The low register just opened up dramatically with the larger receiver and leadpipe. Oddly enough intonation above the staff improved also. The high d and eb are not as flat as they were before. I can use normal fingerings now on those notes. Still love the horn just a little bit more now. Same great tone.
