I forgot to mention that many times I play both the tuba and the string bass in the same orchestral concert. Often, there is a heavy work requiring the tuba and other rather heavy works that don't use the tuba but need more string bass. Many times I have been hired to play the string bass primarily and allowed to play the tuba with no extra remuneration.
