Nuthin' wrong with that. I play a CC horn, and use my third valve quite often now for A, E, high Db, etc (notes of equivalent fingering on BBb tuba: G, D, high B). I sat down with a tuner and that fingering worked the best.

Using 1+2 typically requires quite a tug on the first valve slide to get the notes in tune.

When I was on BBb tubas, the top space G especially was not only more in tune, but easier to hit with third valve.
