The other day at school I sat on a mock-audition panel and heard my fellow students play (all the brass listened to the woodwinds). I was immediately aware of a sense of mercilessness come over me :) seriously. Every note MUST be perfect, and every little marking must be adhered to, and finally every excerpt must be played musically in the proper style. I made the mental decision that, were I really on an audition committee, I would not have advanced a single clarinet player because none of them played a certain excerpt with the correct style (it needed to be aggressive, most of the time it was wimpy).
There are similar 'traps' in every excerpt. Find them, and master them.
