I must be going to the wrong Yuletide Christmas tuba bashes.

This year, we had a group that played on-tempo with real dynamic contrast--no soloists, no horn hornking or after (when the concert's over, folks, it's OVER--go home and practice if you want to play). A magical experience.

Ours isn't the Real TC Thing--we use our own arrangements, have an entertaining MC (who is not,/b> the director) and an appreciative audience. One of my middle-school students showed up with his horn and was transported to tuba heaven. His reaction was "I didn't know that tubas played that kind of music!"

Don't knock TC/Tuba Yule/whatever celebrations--with the right people, it can be tremendously rewarding.
