Yes I have.
As a string bassist, I play in two big bands in the area that have no bass book. Neither have a dependable piano or guitar book, as each have tunes in different keys than the horn section. As both of these bands play maybe twice a year, I see no hope of seeing a real bass or piano book.
I also have the church gig that wants me to play along with the piano or organ without having a hymnal or chart in any key at all.
Having a good knowledge of the jazz and church standards helps.
