Check out Gene Pokorny's CD - Orchestral Excerpts for Tuba Players. There is commentary before each excerpt. Excellent performance - great sound. Fantastic pointers, historical info, some excerpts have multiple interpretations.
Many of the same sentiments expressed above. First, produce a great sound. Make music that you'ld want to hear. Then come the technical pointers.
