Bore size is a sales gimmick. It doesn't really matter, a least not as much as other factors. The Yamaha 641 BBb has a .812 bore but the only way I can change intonation is to use the slides; the horn is unlippable. My Getzen CC ahs one of the smallest bores on the market, .689, and I can lip a full half step up or down if I try hard enough.

The Getzen does center notes easier, though. If you can buzz it, you can play it. Not so with the Yamaha.

Reading Rick Denney's website indicates that the Bell, bell throat, and other factors weigh in much more for sound than bore size. As he said, the largest instruments typically have medium bore sizes.
