For 3-valve instruments in the hands of young players .680 is ok. But if you want to get some VOLUME on the low notes using a 4th valve you will need more. Personally, I like at least .730 on the first 3 and .750 or more on the 4th. The big Jupiters have a larger bore on the 3rd & 4th valves than on the 1st and 2nd, but this fact is never mentioned in their advertising. Seems to me that should be their best selling point. Play a Jupiter next to a King and see for yourself. Now if we could just cross-breed a Jupiter with a King to get the compactness of the latter and the openness and ergonomic of the former we could have something. The Mirafone 1271 comes close, but nobody seems to be selling them.
