I had a PE55 here for almost a year. Here is my impression: This is a WONDERFUL tuba. It is wrapped rather like an old York, that is the bell is close to your head. It played open and free, with a rather LARGE sound for a small-looking tuba. It had 5 valves, with the 5th valve being tuned to a tritone (or you could make it a two-tone valve). The low notes were free blowing and the high range was pretty effortless. Pitch wise, as I would have surmised just looking at it, the 5th partial notes were pretty flat. That meant playing f (4th line) with the first slide pushed all the way in, and open g, 1&2. The 5th partial f# was low, too. It was priced (at the time) for $5500; probably more now due to the dollar vs. eurodollar exchange. I had only one guy come play it and a couple of casual inquiries, so I sent it back.
