If you can play all the notes and sound great then play all the notes. If your product does not sound world class due to insufficient air, then take a breathe. Now record that way and decide. It is better to plan ahead as to which notes to drop and breathe on then to play it each time haphazardly and still end up dropping notes along the way in the struggle. The more unknowns you can eliminate from the audition the less possible mental clutter you will have on the day. Leave nothing to chance.
It all comes down to what sounds best. The point of the excerpt is not to see who has the largest vital capacity. The point of the excerpt is to see who knows conveys the tune the best with the best sound and fundementals.
Auditions are generally musical competitions, not tuba competitions.
Then again, someone from that band would know better preciselly what they are looking for.
