For a more musical approach (ie PLAYING the horn), try a scale pattern, mm=100, quarter followed ascending eighths, with four eighths and a half note on the top note, all mp-mf, legato. Start in a key who's top note is a third or so below where your upper register becomes difficult. Work your way up, taking a few seconds between scales for the muscles to recover. Stop when nothing is coming out on the top note, and move on to something else...like low notes. Do this every day, and in a week or two, you will add several notes to your range. Good luck, and if it hurts more than just a healthy burn, then stop.
