When I did my first BBb to CC conversion, I used only enough braces to make it structurally secure. To mate the 2165 valveset to the 1914 Conn body, I had to fabricate a main tuning slide. I felt that I should add a brace in the main tuning slide, but the horn played considerably worse when I added it, so I immediately took it back off. Each horn, due to the wrap and configuration needs a different amount of bracing, and there seems to be a right number of braces for each horn.
