In my two years in the better of the two bands at all-state here in California, I only saw one player using a BBb tuba. He was a fine player, and there was really no reason he couldn't have played better than anyone there, he just happened to have a BBb horn.

I have yet to see a CC tuba with only three valves! Four is probably the most common, right up there with five. Shoot for five, but don't kill yourself over it.

Orchestral tubists here in the US...CC and F. A few BBb players, but they're rather few and far between.

It interests me that there is this sort of information floating around. I want to ask who you heard it from, but will refrain.
