I play in a community band with three other tubas players,
two in particular come to mind. Both are fine young tuba-ists,
as I recall ones a sophomore and t'other a junior in high school.
These young players are fortunate to have their own horns, and one
plays a 2145 and the other a 186. They both sound very nice,
both have the standard challenges every tuba player will have in
a section where there are 4 strong tubas and the band is only
about 50-55 members...blend and play as a section. I have played on both
of these horns....and I think our inquiring BBS-er will be happy with
whichever horn he finally selects.

1) have your teacher help you. If you do not hjave a tuba teacher,
get one before you buy a horn. The cost of a few lessons will not
prevent you from getting your horn when you are ready, and the perspective
of a teacher who knows your style is invaluable.

2) you know what? Thats the only tip I can give you!
