I believe you are correct on the issue of protection. The Anvil cases are the absolute strongest and safest cases made. They are also some of the largest and heaviest though. If you travel a lot and have to pay your own way, then the Anvil cases can be a pain. I can't imagine getting them through most checkins without any sort of oversize fee, and fitting them in a taxi cab would be a trick unless the cab was a wagon or a van.

If someone else, such as your orchestra or band, is hauling the thing around for you, then an Anvil case is nuclear missle proof. For many though, the Johnson case is "enough" and is certainly easier on the back and the checkbook over the long haul. It all comes down to balance, situation, and priorities. For me, the slight increase in risk of not using Anvil products is outweighed by convenience.
