Your post reminds me of a humorous remark made by Gene Pokorny on his orchestral excerpts CD. Something about by the time he is warmed up the concert is over.
There is an excellent "quick warm up" exercise on p. 15 of Donald Knaub's "Progressive Techniques for Tuba. He says it's an exercise that can be used in an emergency when little time is allowed for the complete routine. It has worked for me many times.
