To whom it may concern,
Amati tubas are just the bottom line of production for whoever that is that produces them. Basically, the student line. And just like most student quality instruments, they, in most cases do just enough to get by. However, every once in a while, one of those student horns are a real gem. But in most cases you can do fairly well seeking out older instruments. And still, Dillon music, last I heard, is still selling the King 4 piston, detachable bell and the Conn 5J (4pv) for around $3k. Hey, good price, pretty good consistency, and not to bad of a horn for most occasions. But for some reason no one likes to mention King or Conn to much anymore. I guess it is all those people whove have been tortured with those smelly conn 12J's with the convertable leadpipe for marching and switchable valve slides (1st to 3rd). Anyways just wondering....
