Another way to keep a horn in good condition is to avoid disreputable repairmen and,if it a school horn, to charge the students for repairs for damages they inflict.
Probably the most important maintenance tip is that you should not attempt to alter,repair,or service the horn if you are not sure that you will not cause permanent damage.
