An old dog sure can retread. I restarted in '87 after about a 15 year hiatus. There are often folks on the tubaeuph list discussing a restart after n+1 years layoff.
For starter books, I'd recommend the Rubank series. I've looked at some of the 'Band Method' boks used in schools around here, and they don't have much to recommend them IMHO.
...and get into a no audition town band, or some such. Nothing gets you back up to speed like having to do it to play with the group.
