There seems to be a series of "Class A Prototypes" that Besson produced in the 20's, and which are appearing for sale recently. I bought, for a friend, a Besson BBb tuba with three compensating valves with the same designation, and about the same age (1920's). It really seemed to be a prototype--some of the tubing was brass and some was copper. I've seen a 3-valve non-compensating version, an Eb version, and a BBb with enharmonic valves that all seemed to be in the same series, and were all labeled as "Class A Prototypes."

Any Besson historians out there know about that series?
