If a bass trombone player's perspective is of interest, here I go:
I was sitting in the orchestra next to Jim when he first tried the tuba in Japan a couple years ago. The difference was immediately apparent. He sounded much better than he had on either his Hirschbrunner or his other big Yamaha. (well, he sounded good before . . . ) More, richer sound, easy for me to hear and apparently less effort him to play. The entire brass section noticed the new tuba immediately; more or less unsolicited. He and I work together frequently and he and the instrument continue to impress me. It certainly seems to be a great match for him. I play enough tuba to get into trouble from time to time and I am astonished at how easy this big ole tub is for me to play! Whether Yamaha is going to produce them or not, who knows? I think it would be great if they did.
