If you live in the middle of nowhere and can't try a selection of mouthpieces and/or don't have a private teacher to help you select one, there is a best all around choice. The Bach 18 (Conn 18 and Blessing 18 are fine copies) is the way to go. The Bach 18 and it's quality copies are also modestly priced. Each of the mouthpieces mentioned in the other posts are fine but favor one aspect over another. The Bach 18 is a medium cup, medium diameter and a medium width rim that will help you learn good playing habits. It may not be the PERFECT mouthpiece for YOU, but it WON'T be a wrong choice either.
The Conn 18 also comes with a free vinyl pouch and brush. Hint Hint.
A lot of links are available for you under Sean's Shops and Organizations.
I speak from experience listening to customers and having taught high schoolers such as yourself. Have fun.
Matt
