I believe recent rule changes do allow horns in just about any key, but I would venture to say that most of the warmup excersises the horn line would do: the lip slurs, the scale patterns etc. would be based on the G bugle. Once you transpose to the BBb, you may end up playing in some outragious keys on your BBb. Certain corps might just say tough....play the GG. I also would not want to use a personal horn on tour all summer, knowing how they can be abused! Let the corps horn take the heat rather than your own personal axe! Also as some of the posts mentioned the corps may want to stick with a uniform tone coler that one brand of Conctra would provide. ken k
