Something I tell my students: I won't take credit for your successes or blame when you are less than successful, provided I have done my job.
I believe that a teacher's main job is to impart his/her experience and knowledge upon a student. I agree that a teacher can and should try to find ways to ignite the fire under a student's proverbial butt, however the ultimate responsibility lies in the hands of the student. No teacher can force a student to run with the ball.
Just my thoughts.
