The St. Petersburg tubas are made of nickel (sp?). I have an old Abbott Sousaphone (made in Czech. probably by Amati) which is also nickel silver. Chuck Dallenbach designed a carbon Fiber bell for his CB50 a few years back. It looked pretty cool and was very light. Of course there is the fiberglass that is used for sousas. I understand they used to make tubas out of it also. I have seen fiberglas tenor and baritone saxes too if you can believe that one! then there is the diferent kinds of brass all with varying amount of copper content, the red brass, the gold brass and yello brass, etc. Well my brain is picked,...ken k
