I believe Civic now pays a stipend of $5,000.
As far as the repetoire list goes, yes, they are some of the more obscure excerpts, but they will definitely test all auditionee's abilities.

Berlioz - Damnation of Faust, Act 2, Scene 6 (not the Hungarian March)
Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture

Wagner - Act 2, Scene 2
