He spoke at the Texas Music Educator's Conference in the late 80's. I lived in San Antonio, where that conference is held every year, and, though I've never been a music educator, always managed to sneak in by whatever means. He spoke in a session with, if I'm remembering correctly, some well-known performers who were talking about the characteristic sound of their instruments in a band. I remember hearing Dale Clevinger complain about horn players who sounded like trombonists, and I think it was in that session.
