Platinum plating?

Good day all! I'm looking for some information and I hope some of you can help.

A Bass trombone playing friend and I are thinking of having our mouthpieces gold plated. He uses a brass/silver plate schilike and I use a bronze/silver plate Dillon. We discussed the idea with a friend of ours' uncle, who is a jeweler. He was mmore than happy to do it for us and has done mouthpieces before. He suggested, however that he plate the rim of the mouthpiece with platinum rather than gold, as he has experienced the gold weaing off rather quickly on the contact points. He claims the platinum will last almost indefinitely.

That was where the questions started.

- We were both interested in the "slippery" feeling of a gold rim. Will platinum provide the same effect?

- Should silver plating be stripped first?

- Will gold or platinum even adhere properly to my bronze mouthpiece? (Dillon music doesn't plate their bronze mpc's, but does plate brass ones.)

- Is gold plate going to greatly efffect the sound of my bronze mouthpiece?

Well, thank you very much for your time and for any information you can relay.
