I actually disagree with you on the fact that starting on a big horn can mess up your face. I started on a Cerveny 601 CC in college, and it took a ton!! of air to play, especially low. However, I purchased a CC Holton Harvey Phillips model, and I can put a TON of air through that horn now because I learned on the big 601. I think it helped me alot with my air support playing on a bigger horn, now that I am playing on the Holton model. I can put out just as much sound as I could on the 601 now because of my air support.
