the ability of the sound to be played, leave the tuba and be heard without playing FFF all the time out in the audience. On some tubas, after the sound comes out of the bell it just dies and it is hard to hear outside of group.
It is a word used very often. I listen to sound coming out of a tuba and you can actually hear the sound starting in the bell, some right at the rim of the bell and some you hear the sound actually start several feet away from the bell. The tubs where the sound is clear, no fuzz in the sound and it starts outside the tuba bell are the tubas that i feel have more projection.
