The taper on those monster Eb's is so fast after the valves that making it even faster when you cut it is likely to have disastrous effects. Be careful.

Near as I can tell, they make a better CC conversion than an F conversion.

Most 3-valve Eb's I've played have funky intonation below the staff, and cutting doesn't solve this problem. I've abandoned the idea of adding a fifth valve on my own project horn, because the intonation below the staff (even on combinations not helped by a fifth valve) are all over the place. It was the same before I cut it from Eb to F.

I'm saving the Miraphone rotary valve that I bought to make a fifth valve on my 186 BBb. Maybe.
