And, yes, he has more business than he can handle, which is why he only works on horns he sells.

His point is that when you take a horn to an expert, you ought not to complain when the expert does expert things. It's easy enough to ask a tech not to do such things, and I'm sure the tech will comply. Personally, I'm happy to get all the reassurance I can that an expert has done his best on my horn.

Before an overhaul, I had a long conversation with the repair tech, so that he would understand my philosophy and I would understand his. The result was that he removed a lot less metal than he would have had he wanted the horn to look new.
