No offense, but are you REALLY sure you want to lay out that kind of coin for public school instruments? It's not that kids shouldn't have high-quality equipment; they should. IF they are serious about their playing. That's maybe 1 in 10 or so. The other 9 will usually take about two years to render a once-beautiful instrument into a mangled heap.

Short of making the parents sign a contract obligating them for all repairs, no matter how small or large, I would suggest a more economical, middle of the road instrument. The VMI (who makes Perantucci instruments, BTW) 3301 BBb comes to mind. About $3K from most vendors, and a pretty tough, good-playing horn by all accounts.

For the price, you can get twice as many horns to hold half in reserve while the first batch is being fixed.
